Lee Roy Selmon's tale combines an athletic scholarship to his family as well as service for the community. In the first place Selmon was raised by Lucious Selmon and Jessie on their Eufala farm. He was the smallest of nine kids. He was also one of three brothers who played for Oklahoma in football. They were all All-Americans. The year 1973 was the first time Lee Roy and Lucious Jr. Dewey were the starters for one year. Lee Roy won the Outland and Lombardi Awards as the nation's best lineman. The three seasons he was an offensive lineman, Oklahoma recorded a record of 32-1-1 and won two national championships. He was awarded his third scholarship. He was acknowledged as an National Football Foundation scholar-athlete. Selmon earned his master's degree in educational studies. Lee Roy spent ten hours each week working as a volunteer in his college days. After graduating, he settled in Tampa and played for nine seasons with the Buccaneers were all-pro three times and started a business career. He began his career in 1988. was working as an Account Relation Manager in the First Florida Bank in Tampa. He was employed with the Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute and the Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. In 1982 the Junior Chamber of Commerce recognized Lee Roy as one of the 10 of the most outstanding American young men. Lee Roy was 6'2" tall and weighed 265 lbs when he played college football. The year 1975 was the first time he commanded the team. Lee Roy joined the University of South Florida in 1993, as director of athletics as an associate. He was named to the College Football Hall of Fame in 1988, and the GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame in 1994 the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1995. In 1989, the Oklahoma City Chapter of the National Football Foundation in 1989 presented their Distinguished American Award to his parents Mr. and Mrs.. Lucious Selmon Sr. Henry Bellmon, the governor of Oklahoma gave it to them.
